Although my visit to their high school was short, I immediately understood why they’ve received so much praise. Their high school is considered “at risk”, yet they thrive despite it all and are also very wise beyond their years. We all had an instant chemistry with me being someone they could relate to yet also be seen as a role model. Thanks to one of their incredible teachers/mentors that worked with them on a daily basis, I was able to continue communication with them all via email.
From simple jokes, sharing my words of wisdom, sending encouragement and battling with them back and forth to see who can send the most meaningful and thought provoking quotes, it has been an absolute pleasure to interact with such a sharp group of high school students.
His quote from Thomas Edison read “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” Now I’m not one to wallow in my setbacks for too long, but it’s always good to hear or see a message of encouragement that tells you “Hey, you can still do this. Don’t give up. You’re strong, smart, determined, etc.” and that is exactly what that quote did for me.
After receiving his quote, I gave him a special thanks and also shared a few words of wisdom with him, ensuring that he is getting the same message out of the quotes that I receive when I read them.
You never know where your inspiration will come from. Today, mine came from the help of Victor, an intelligent high school freshman, and the powerful quote he was kind enough to share. Who would have thought that from all of the audio books, books, pod casts and other things I use for inspiration on a daily basis that a simple quote from the right person would really do the trick?
Lesson of the day: Take time out to look away at times. You’ll be surprised what you’ll find by focusing on something new.
A big shout out goes to a few top notch people at Carol City High: Victor, aka the Boss, Antonio, Rossiinni the philosopher, Stephon the All-America, Demetric and last but surely not least, Ms. Franco! All of you are very much appreciated! Keeping striving for success!
See you at the top!
